Admission

Candidates willing to take admission should  visit http://www.bitsadmission.com/ for latest announcements, important dates and admission process details. Admission Process is centralized for all campuses of BITS Pilani. All admissions are based on merit, there is no quota of any kind. For admissions to BE Mechanical and BE Manufacturing Engineering the candidate needs to score 80% and above in P,C,M in 10+2 level and there after maintain a high score in BITSAT. For Admission to Higher Degree (ME) Programs, the candidate needs to be from relevant BE stream with 60% in BE and maintain a high score in higher degree online test. Admission to Ph/D. program is generally made through a Ph.D. qualifying examination followed by a rigorous interview process.

Placement

The talent pool on campus acts as magnet for large number of reputed companies, MNCs and PSUs every semester. The best of the profiles in India and abroad are available to the Mechanical Engineering graduates from BITS. The placement process is highly competitive and rewarding for students and industries. Students avail campus placement during their final semester on campus. A centralized placement office caters to the need of students from all disciplines. Faculty Position

Applications are welcome from motivated individuals for faculty position. If you think you can contribute to the department, you are welcome to apply online following the active link at BITS home page for faculty position. You may also send your detailed resume along with covering letter to the Director of the campus / HOD at any time of the year. Periodic reviews are done on the applications received and you should be hearing from us soon after receipt of your application. Research Scholar

Mechanical Engineering Department welcomes application from prospective Research Scholars in one of the broad areas (but not limited to) Product Design and Development, Energy Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Nanotechnology & MEMS, Operations Management, Materials & NDT, Robotics etc. Research scholars receive Rs 14,000 P.M. Assistance ship + Contingency grants + Hostel accommodation. You may forward your resume along with detailed covering letter to the HOD for preliminary processing. Research scholars are expected to subsequently join the Institute's Ph.D. program after clearing the qualifying procedure.

Campus Life

Pilani campus is an exciting place to be, bubbling with activities round the year. Weather condition is generally dry and healthy. Covered with wooded paths and spread in about 331 acres, the campus houses well planned Institute buildings, hostels, students’ activity centre, residential quarters and shopping centers. The Institute is fully residential with 11 hostels for boys and one hostel complex for girls. There is swimming pool, several sports grounds and indoor sports facilities for students and staff.
The Institute has a magnificent library complex with a floor area of 65000 Sq.ft., and a seating capacity of 750. There is a highly ornate Saraswati Temple made of marble and an industrial Museum within the campus, doubling up as tourist attraction. The entire campus is wired through a state-of-the-art campus-wide network that provides internet connectivity to the entire institute, every hostel room and faculty houses.

Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA)

MEA is the hub of professional activities of Mechanical Engineering students and staff. MEA organizes several activities round the year, like arranging Invited lectures, paper presentations, publishing department newsletter and printing T-shirts, managing participation in APOGEE and other technical fests etc. It also arranges welcome and sendoff parties for students of the department. A group of motivated students headed by a professor-in-charge manages the activities of MEA. Current Prof-in-charge is Dr M K Soni.

Manufacturing Engineering Association

Manufacturing Engineering association is new and started with the introduction of BE Manufacturing degree program. It is poised to develop as a hub of professional activities for the students and faculty of Manufacturing Engineering. Current Prof-in-charge is Dr A K Digalwar.

SAE Club

There is a active ASE students' club on campus, putting their imaginations to hardware, building new vehicles for special purposes. Team from BITS is regular participant at BAJA event. Over the years, the club has acquired several laurels and accolades. Professor-in-charges are Prof. K S Sangwan and Mr Amit Kumar.

The team “Inspired Karters” from BITS Pilani (built an All Terrain Vehicle), secured 10th place (out of 180 teams across India) in the endurance race as well as the overall tally at BAJA SAE INDIA 2010. Inspired Karters was also one among 45 colleges in INDIA to design and build an Open Style Formula Race Car for SUPRA SAE INDIA 2011. Team “Teevra”, Human powered vehicle from BITS Pilani stood 8th in endurance and 15th in overall tally at SAE EFFICYCLE, INDIA and became 1st Indian team to mark its presence at HPV contest at California in 2010.

ASME Club

Activities of the vibrant ASME chapter of BITS pilani include organizing various competitions, and skill enhancement training sessions for students. Faculty-in-charges are Dr Srikant Routroy and Mr J S Rathore. A team comprising of 8 ASME members, built a multi rider, recumbent bike and represented BITS- Pilani in Effi-cycle event in Chandigarh in october.The team shall also be taking part in ASME HPVC to be held in April, 2011 in Rose Hulman University, Montera.
