Central Library
The library is housed in a
state of the art new building, covering about 65000 sqft
area and close to all academic blocks of the Institute. The
library building has a very modern design and it provides
well lit reading halls, stacks, display area, e-library,
audio visual library and study carrels, ramps and lift etc.
It has attractive interiors and got a seating capacity of
750. Library is fully computerized and the library home page
can be accessed all over the campus. About 4000 full text
e-journals and many important databases have been made
available on the campus network and can be accessed in the
hostel rooms and staff residences. These include the
journals of IEEE, ASCE, Elsevier, IOP, BIOSIS, ACS, Emerald,
etc. There are 17 public access terminals in the library.
The wireless internet in the library provides Internet
connectivity even for the readers’ laptops. BITS
participates in the networking of university library
programme of INFLIBNET.

P & T Services
Within the Vidya Vihar
Campus there is a branch of UCO Bank, a Post Office and a
Telephone Exchange. In the adjoining CEERI Campus there is a
branch of the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur and a
Telegraph Office. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur has an
extension counter in the Institute.
Birla Museum
Adjacent to the Institute Building is located the Birla
Museum. It is the first science and technology museum
established in the country. Most of the exhibits and models
incorporate stimulating animations and visual effects.
CEERI
Adjoining the Campus, there is
the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute. It
is one of the National Laboratories under the Council of
Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).
Shopping
Centers
A Supermarket, AKSHAY
is located in the heart of the campus with an elegant modern
building. This Supermarket is apart of BITS Consumers’
Cooperative Stores Ltd., with 7500 Sq. feet covered area.
AKSHAY has various sections for consumable items where the
customers have the freedom to choose and pick-up the items
of their choice and pay on the cash counter. Student
volunteers of the Institute have worked with management of
the BITS Coop in establishment of the Supermarket. A number
of student volunteers are working in the store under EWYLP
scheme. Every effort is being made to provide all the needs
of the students and staff like general provision, sanitary
goods, cosmetics, snacks and other fast food items, books
and stationery, fruits and vegetables at reasonable rates.
BITS Coop has also given franchise to two vendors for the
sale of Bakery and Dairy products. Other necessary
facilities are being planned to be incorporated.
The Vidya Vihar Campus has another shopping center
(popularly known as “Connaught”) with books and magazine
stores, stationery shops, general merchandise and provision
stores, and Xerox and STD phone facilities and restaurants.

Houses
Limited
facilities are available for board and lodging on
payment at the BITS Guest House which is at the
entrance of the campus. Accommodation in the Guest
House has to be booked by prior request and these
requests have to be addressed to the Chief, Public
Relations Unit, BITS, Pilani. Limited accommodations
are also available at Alumni

Schools /
Colleges
There are several
Middle and Primary Schools in Pilani. There are also
10+2 schools affiliated to Central Board of
Secondary Education and Board of Secondary
Education, Rajasthan. Birla Balika Vidyapeeth [for
girls up to 10+2] and Birla Shishu VIhar, a
coeducational Primary School, are located in the
Vidya Vihar Campus. Adjoining the campus, there is
also a Commerce & Arts College and a
Polytechnic. There is also a Home Science College
for Girls in Pilani town. These schools and colleges
are run by Birla Education Trust and other
Educational Societies.

Infant Care Centre
The Community Welfare Unit of
the Institute runs an Infant Care Centre with the
help from faculty wives, to meet the needs of the
campus community for pre-school education of the
infants. The Institute helps the centre by providing
the necessary facilities.
