Miscellaneous Experience
In brief, he has 16 years of teaching and research experience (13 years in BITS, Pilani and 3 years at the U of A, Canada while doing Ph.D.); 11 years of maintenance of technical equipment (7 years, All India Radio (AIR) and 4 years, Indian Airlines Corporation ( IA)); and 18 years of administrative experience ( 7 years as Class- I officer of the Government of India (AIR), 4 years as a middle rank manager in IA and 7 years in BITS, Pilani). Details are given below.
Before acquiring Ph.D. Degree
(i). Government of India (All India Radio and Doordarshan (TV)) -July 1971 to July 1979.
After completing B.E. degree, appeared in the Engineering (Electronics) Services Examination –1970 conducted by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC), India. Obtained 12th rank in the all India merit list and worked as a Class-I officer of the Government of India (All India Radio) for 8 years.
During my 8 years’ stay in this department, I worked at Transmitting , Receiving and Studio Centers and Planning and Development Cell of AIR at its Headquarters in New Delhi.
(ii). Indian Airlines Corporation - August, 1979 to August, 1983.
Planning of the Real Time Passenger Reservation System for IA. Management of the teleprinter network of the Northern Region of IA.
After acquiring Ph.D. Degree
Worked as a Group Leader of the Electrical and Electronic Engg. (EEE) Group, BITS, Pilani for more than a year.
Worked as a Divisional Head in BITS (Dean, Faculty Division – II) for more than six years. In this capacity, he was responsible for the administration and planning of facilities for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Unit and Mechanical Engineering Groups and was a member of all the important committees of the Institute such as, Recruitment Committee, Examination Committee , Purchase Committee, Research Board and Senate of BITS, Pilani.
Coordinator for three BITS - CSIR Scientist Training Programs each of 4 weeks’ duration during 1992 and 1993. Each program had about 20 to 25 participating scientists.
In-Charge for conducting the Higher Degree Admissions Test of the Institute for 4 semesters.
For 10 semesters, he acted as Chief of the Selection Committee for “ MOTOROLA Award” for selecting best engineering projects - two in undergraduate and one in post-graduate - out of all the projects done in BITS in the areas of electrical and electronics, instrumentation engineering and computer science .
Organizing Faculty for Intensive Teaching Workshops (ITW) for four semesters from the year 1993 to 1997. These were aimed to guide new faculty about the methods of teaching.
Coordinator for two Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence (MODROBS) Projects of the AICTE during the 8th Plan period.
Member, Assessment Committee for the Technical Staff, Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani for last more than 7 years. This is a national lab. of the Govt. of India.
Member of the editorial committee for “Symposium on Microwave Power Tubes and their Applications” held at Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani in 1990.
