Achievements:

 

Embassy of India (February 1992 to July 1995)

Counsellor (Science and Technology)/Scientific Attaché on deputation leave from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.   The work involved S&T diplomacy, assimilation and dissemination of latest S&T developments in fields such as engineering and technology, environment, agriculture, basic sciences etc.  I was the Head of the S&T Wing of the Embassy and I was involved in administrative duties too.  During this period, as a Science Diplomat, I visited a number of organisations in the United States and this has been very useful for science diplomacy.

University of Bath, Bath , U.K (May 1979 to January 1980)

Post-doctoral Research Officer on a research contract from Polymer Engineering Directorate (PED) of the Science Research Council (SRC), U.K.  The research was in the area of acoustic emission monitoring of fibre-reinforced plastic pressure vessels.

Hartshill Medical Institute and North Staffordshire University, Stoke-on-Trent U.K. (October 1986 to April 1987)

This deputation was under the Exchange of Scientists scheme of the Royal Academy of the United Kingdom and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).  Under the scheme, I worked as a Visiting Fellow of the Royal Academy-cum-Visiting Professor of Biomedical Engineering. Work involved advanced research in the area of development of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic composite fracture fixation plates, polysulfone expandable rivets and development of suitable material for bridging large osteoperiosteal gaps in bones.
