The Pharmacy Group offers degrees leading to 

·          Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.)

Salient Features of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.):

v       8 semester modular structure

v       Strong exposure to basic science, humanities, management and engineering related subjects

v       Exhaustive exposure to various practical aspects of the research methodologies, instrumental techniques, emerging areas  and industrial operations

v       Option for doing projects (Study/ Laboratory/ Computer oriented)from third year onwards along with  regular courses, seminars, assignments etc.

v       Electives option to choose a specific career path

v       Seven and a half months Practice School (PS-I of 2 months and PS-II of 5.5 months)/ Thesis option

·          Master of Pharmacy

Salient Features of Master of Pharmacy:

  v       Intake : 25-30 per year;   4  semesters

v       Designed with the view of over all development rather than single area specialization.

v       Project oriented for better exposure to practical skills before entering into actual world of research through Practice School programme.

v       Option of electives to choose career path.

·          Doctor of Philosophy

Salient Features of Doctor of Philosophy:

v       Intake: Based on need

 ·          Master in Public Health

       (in collaboration with Biological Sciences Group, BITS Pilani)

Salient Features of Master in Public Health:

v       Core courses designed to develop analytical skills and knowledge in key areas of public health.  The course work will be conducted high contact classes as well as field training and in field assignment

v       Dissertation.

v       Apart from intense classroom teaching the course design emphasizes learning through assignments and field trainings.  In the first three semesters the field trainings will include structured rotations with specific assignments related to core courses and electives.  Field training and a choice of electives will train the students in tackling practical situations in different aspects of Public Health. 

v       In the fourth semester the students will participate in current and ongoing projects for dissertation work either on-campus or off-campus locations, including their place of employment.

v       Practical training and dissertation work in real field will facilitate career development by providing a window into a particular career opportunity

·          Work Integrated Learning Programmes

The group is involved in work integrated learning programme concept to train manpower for the following industries through collaborative ventures.

Asst.); Institute of Cardio-Vascular Diseases, Chennai (B.S. and M.Phil. in Physician Assistant.); Pharmacy Department., Kathmandu University (Instrumental Methods of Analysis); Shashi Phytochemical industries, Alwar (TQM, Validation and Documentation); Bombay Hospitals, Mumbai and Christian Medical College, Vellore (M.Phil. in Hospital and Health Systems Management ).

 

Mode of Teaching And Evaluation

The Group emphasizes excellence in teaching and research. Teaching system at BITS is innovative, non-conventional and highly application-oriented with evaluation components being open/closed book tests, quiz, assignments, seminars, projects and end of the semester comprehensive examination. This kind of continuous evaluation provides an immediate feedback to the teachers regarding the student’s performance and their progress. It also provides students an opportunity to assess themselves. The academic flexibility offers the student an opportunity to choose elective courses as per the needs of their future career objectives. The students are permitted to do open-ended laboratory-oriented projects and study-oriented projects even at First degree level. Special emphasis is given in the use of computers and operation of sophisticated laboratory equipment. Some core subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering graphics and workshop practice, electrical sciences, computer programming, economics, management. Social sciences and languages are also common with other engineering and science degree programmes to provide a broad based education. At M.Pharm. level special courses like quality assurance and regulatory affairs, pharmacokinetics and clinical pharmacy, molecular biology and immunology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, etc., are offered.
