BITS, Pilani came into existence as a Deemed University by
an act of the Indian Parliament in the year 1964. In its
formative years, the Institute had ties with the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston, USA. It adopted a
semester system, modular structure of courses, continuous and
internal evaluation, letter grading and the likes. The
institute also created institutionalized linkages with the
industries and structured Practice School as an integral
component of education.
The institute seeks to further strengthen its linkages with
universities overseas, Research and Development organizations,
and also Industrial organizations. Memoranda of Understanding
(MoUs) have been signed in order to initiate or memorialize
relationships with various universities, and to enhance
educational and research linkages, exchange of information,
faculty exchange, students exchange, and to set up
state-of-the art infrastructure facilities in areas like
Communications, Computer Science and Biotechnology.
Students of BITS, Pilani have completed their first degree,
higher degrees, Ph.D., research and development projects at
centers abroad. Centers for Biotechnology and Computer
Networking have been established with the help of the
institute's International collaborations.Also, an
International Relations Unit has been set up to promote
relations with renowned Institutions abroad.
This website aims at providing an overview of the
responsibilities of the International Relations Unit in
promoting relations with foreign Universities and in
strengthening further, the relations with existing partner
Universities abroad. It presents a brief description of the
International Collaborations during the last few years. It is
noteworthy that BITS, Pilani has collaborations with several overseas universities and industries of world
