Assignment-1

 

This assignment is theoretical in nature and does expect you to spend a reasonable amount of time in the library and / or the authentic digital resources available on the Net. The submission will be in the form of a report which should include your views and understanding of the problem after analyzing it.

 

You may also select a topic which is not there in the list, if you have a better idea, with prior permission from the instructor-in-charge by meeting him in person.

 

Assignment statement:

 

Carry out an exploratory (comparative) study of any of the existing BITS-Pilani campus-wide networks (at Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, Dubai campuses) with the existing Campus-wide networks of any two of the following institutions of higher learning:

·         IIT-Kharagpur

·         IIT-Bombay

·         IIT-Madras

·         IIT-Delhi

·         IISc-Bangalore

·         National University of Singapore,

·         Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok

·         Purdue University (any campus)

·         State University of New York (any campus)

 

Please identify the following details, preferably, keeping technology-trends in mind:

1.      Network / internetwork design goals,

2.      Overall network / internetwork architecture,

3.      Network / internetwork topology,

4.      Current deployment status and user-base (if known),

5.      Internet connectivity options planned / used,  

6.      Any special features not covered above like IPv6-readiness, connectivity to the gigabit and higher speed national / regional (e.g. Continent-wide) / international research / test backbone etc.

 

Notes:

 

Please prepare a summary report not exceeding four pages in your own language.

 

In order to strengthen your report, you are also expected to carefully identify and cite appropriate (relevant) scholarly articles / reports. Please provide a complete list of ALL the resources consulted by you on the last page using the citation style of the IEEE Transactions on Computers.

 

Reports must be uploaded online at the IntraBITS website of the course before the deadline: 09/02/2010.

 

No Email attachments shall be accepted. Please retain a printout with you for bringing it along with you at the time of defense.
