Project Grid-One <IPv6-aware Grid Computing, focuses on QoS,
collaboration but includes features like heterogeneity, multi-role support,
fixed and mobile nodes> 6.
iCharak <Grid-enabled Telemedicine project atop
the IPv6-native support-based ‘Grid-One Architecture’> 7.
Smart Digital Pen Project <Write anywhere
on any hard surface using normal as well as digital ink and wirelessly
interface with computer, do away with mouse, graphics tablet and
key-board> 8.
Project IPv6@BITS <The flagship research initiative of BITS Pilani that
begun in 1998 and ended in 2005. Brought several firsts to BITS and a few to 9.
NGNi IPv6-based Multimedia Internetwork QoS Project <This four-nation European Commission
Funded project was technically led by BITS Pilani but officially managed by
UPM-Madrid. Focussed on QoS and IPv6.> 10.
Project NetFirst <a real network
research laboratory being built atop the ‘NetFirst Architecture’ set-up with
a pool of resources accessible over the Internet; originally evolved atop the
extended variant of the MIT iLabs architecture with several innovations
introduced at BITS-Pilani 11. Journal Server Freeware Digital Library Project <This innovative
freeware digital library project was initiated by the Oxford-based
JournalServer Trust in which BITS Pilani played the roles of search engine
development and security architecture.>

BITS-Linux, BITS-Office and BITS-MOS
<These initiatives of BITS Pilani began in 2000 and later. Project BITS
BITS-MOS was the original of these projects that eventually Spun off the rest
of the two projects as development projects.> |

Call for Doctoral Scholars (PhD) Interested in joining as a Doctoral research
scholar? Eligibility for the PhD aspirants (on-campus only):

Scholars
who bring along with them any external scholarships like those by CSIR etc.
are encouraged to apply although the Institute does have a provision for even
those aspirants who are found otherwise good. Ø
Some
students may be, in addition, supported by limited external research grants
for a grant-based project. Interested
in joining as a Post-Doctoral Fellow? Eligibility for
the Post-Doc aspirants:

All
Post-Doctoral Aspirants are encouraged to get in touch through E-mail / over
phone prior to making an official application. Ø
Selected
aspirants shall have to be supported by limited external research grants for
a grant-based project. Interested in joining as
a First or Higher Degree Thesis / Dissertation Student? Applications
for informal engagement (as research project candidates) are invited round
the year from motivated BITS-Pilani students for participation in the
listed research projects during each Academic Session. <Semester-specific deadlines for applying through Email
for a formal project (COP/LOP/SP): 15th October / 15th
March during respective semester> Eligibility of on-campus student aspirants: ·
Preferred Discipline: 1.
First Degree: CS (Exceptional IS / EEE
/Instrumentation students are welcome as well) 2.
Higher Degree: CS / SS / Embedded Systems ·
CGPA: No bar, but other things being equal, a student with 9.5 and higher
CGPA would be preferred. <exceptionally
talented students with ‘any’ CGPA are welcome to apply> ·
Aspirant’s Availability for Project- work: 16-20 Hours a week for formal
/ informal projects / PP, 48-56 hours of work per week for FD Thesis /
Dissertation projects Note: Students in their last semesters of
respective programmes may not apply unless they are sure that their placement
and higher-study-application activities will NOT affect the project. Other
things being equal, preference shall be given to those who join the project
informally in their early years and migrate subsequently to formal projects
OR those who commit for two semesters of association with the project. Deadline for receiving Email-based formal
project applications with detailed bio-data: October 15 / March 15 <depending upon
the semester of applying> Selection
Process for Formal / Informal Projects (if advertised separately on Notice
Boards): Written test followed by
detailed personal interaction for the short-listed aspirants or at two
rounds of interactions (group and personal); interviews are held for not more
than three times the number of available project seats (formal and informal
included) ·
