Dr Ivan Gratchev is Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the School of
Engineering and Built Environment (EBE), Griffith University, QLD, Australia. He
completed the Master and PhD programs in the field of geotechnical engineering
at Kyoto University, Japan. Dr Gratchev also completed a postdoctoral study at
the University of Tokyo, Japan. Dr Gratchev's research interests are in
geotechnical aspects of landslides, soil liquefaction, and rock mechanics, and
engineering education. He has published numerous research articles in leading
international journals and international conferences, and two textbooks on soil
and rock mechanics which have become a popular learning tool among students.
Dr Gratchev is Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. During his academic career at Griffith University, Dr Gratchev has taught several engineering courses using a novel project-based approach. His teaching achievements were recognized by his peers and students through several learning and teaching citations and awards. Hi is currently the Work Integrated Learning coordinator at the School of EBE providing final-year engineering students with opportunities to work in the relevant industry for one trimester. Dr Gratchev is the chair of monthly series of Webinars in Engineering Education that provide a platform for academics and educators from different universities to share their innovative pedagogies with their colleagues.
