A Misunderstood Reunion

                                                 Ishan V. Sinai Kakodkar
                                                    2018A4PS0304P

It was a lazy Sunday morning. I was still in bed, trying to catch some more Zs, when a sudden
knock at the door startled me out of my bed. I quickly glanced at the clock- it was almost noon.

I bolted towards the door, still half asleep, and opened it to find my sister standing there with

her luggage. It took me a while to process her sudden arrival, but then I realised that it was not
unexpected, as her spring semester had just concluded.

‘Hey there sleepyhead! Aren’t you going to let me in?’ asked Nikki.
‘Well yes, of course Nikki, come in…’ I replied drowsily.

‘How can you sleep until so late? Mum would have flipped out if she were home.’, teased

               Nikki.
Mum was out of town for some work, leaving me as the only guardian of our humble abode.

‘Sure she would have. I am just trying to make the best out of whatever little vacation I’m
               getting at the moment.’

               ‘By sleeping?’ asked Nikki jokingly.
‘It is the most important thing. You will realise it when you get older.’ I answered, laughing.

‘But tell me why didn’t you inform me of your arrival? I could have come to pick you up at the

airport. Is this the way to behave? Even Mum is not at home. She would have surely cancelled
her trip and done everything to give you a grand welcome!’ I was a bit annoyed at her for her

               unannounced arrival.
‘Oh my God! Bhaiyya, chill! Don’t attack me with your barrage of questions! Mum knows, it’s

just that I informed her a tad late. As for your other questions, I’ll answer them, but first, I have

a surprise for you! I’ve got someone you would like to meet.’ Nikki said, grinning.
At this point I was already irritated and was in no mood for another one of her pranks. Nikki

had always been notorious for playing pranks- me being the target in over half of them. I did
not want to make a fool of myself again. I just welcomed her in with a tight hug and said,

‘Listen Nikki, I am not falling for your mind games again. So, don’t waste another second and

go freshen up. Till then I will make you your favourite aloo parathas for breakfast… or brunch,
whatever it is. Join me at the table once you are done with your stuff.’ Being a bad sport and

short tempered, I tend to say or do things that hurt the other person. So I didn’t want to spoil
the rest of our day over a silly prank.
