‘Oh come on bhaiyya… I am not kidding. There is someone I want you to meet. And I am sure
this is the perfect opportunity given that Mum is also not around.’ She told me while unwinding
comfortably on the sofa. Her tone revealed a sense of excitement.
‘What do you mean by perfect opportunity? And wait,.... Did you just say as Mum is not
around?’ Ever since Nikki had arrived, I was just raising questions. Meet who? I wondered. I
was not ready for another person to make an unexpected and dramatic appearance. Nothing
seemed to make sense to my foggy brain.
‘I met him on the plane. It was by sheer luck that we got adjacent seats. He saw my name on
the boarding pass and we got to talking. Turns out he knows us, but we have never met him! I
am so excited and happy right now,’ she informed me gleefully.
By now I was panicking and my brain was racing with several questions. A person she met on
the plane? Who could it be? And how does he know us? And why did Nikki bring him home
specifically when Mum wasn’t around? All of this did not seem right.
While all these thoughts clouded my mind, an individual arrived and stood at the door. The
face sent a chill down my spine and I was scared stiff. Yes, the face had become pale and
wrinkly, the head was balding and the beard was rife with greying hair; but it was the same
face! The face that was responsible for all our misery. The face that had made our life a living
hell. It had disappeared for a good twenty years, but now it was back!
My fear soon turned into anger. What was he here for now?! This person had destroyed
everything, and yet had the audacity to even talk to Nikki and accept her invite to come to our
home!
‘How dare you poke your nose into our lives again? Who the hell gave you the right to do so?
Wow! What a fantastic plan you have orchestrated! Arriving at our door when Mum is not at
home! Nikki is unaware of your disgusting actions and so you thought you could sugar-coat
the truth and walk back into our lives. Listen, you! I won’t let you ruin everything all over
again. So, I request you, as politely as I can, to leave. Leave right now…!!’ I had never gone
ballistic like this. I was pissed off.
How I wished for Mum to be there at that moment. She is the strongest woman I know. Mum
had boldly faced such evil people and she was the reason that we were living a successful life
today.
‘Bhaiyya… Neil, listen to me. Please don’t overreact. It’s not the same person. He’s not here
to harm or ruin us. He is here for good reason.’ Nikki was trying her best to convince me.
