I am interested in researching, and have taught and published, in areas related to social theories of space and spatiality, urban cultural studies, comparative Indian literatures, Indian writing in English, crime fiction, gender and South Asian popular culture. My current research focuses on the relationship between crime and city - the South Asian city in particular - and the ways in which this relationship configures in novelistic and cinematic form. I would welcome potential PhD scholars interested in some aspect of this question. I see my future research moving in the direction of digital public humanities, attempting to bridge the gap between a humanities/literature classroom and public sphere, using digital tools and methodologies. I am also interested in translation projects, especially from Bengali to English.
