Dr. Ashutosh Bhatia is Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and
Information Systems, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani. He completed his PhD
and postgraduate degree from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and B.E. degree
from Barkatullah University, Bhopal. Earlier, he also worked as scientist in Defense
Research and Development Organization (DRDO), India for nearly 5 years where his primary
responsibilities was designing robust and secure communication algorithms and protocols for
battlefield environments.
He has also worked as research engineer in Samsung India Software Operations (SISO).
During his stay in Samsung, he was also the member of MAC core committee of IEEE 802.15.6
standardization group, and also, patented a couple of methods related to the MAC protocol of
Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) in United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). His
research interests include building new designs, protocols, algorithms and theories that
improve the security, performance and robustness of various networks and systems.
He has delivered a number of invited lectures in various areas related to computer science,
chaired the technical sessions in international reputed conferences, worked as the track
chair of International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications
(AINA-2021, 2022) organized national workshops, worked as technical technical committee
member in the international conferences reviewed a number of research manuscripts.
He has also completed a number of government and industry sponsored projects as PI/Co-PI and
few projects are currently in progress.
Dr. Ashutosh Bhatia has successfully supervised and examined one PhD student in the
area of software defined networking and is currently guiding five other Ph.D students in the
areas of decentralized crowdsensing, biometric security in IoT, security of 5G cooperative
networks, predicting the shelf like, quality and adulteration of milk using IoT and Machine
Learning, and designing efficient advertising campaigns over E-commerce platforms, as
supervisor or co-supervisor. In the past, he has taught courses like Discrete Mathematics,
Internet of Things, Network Security, Cryptography, Computer Networks, Modeling and
Simulation, and Blockchain Technologies. In addition to the research and teaching
responsibilities he is also working as an active member of Teaching Learning Center (TLC)
BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus and Departmental Committee for Academics (DCA) and working as the
in-charge of Blockchain and Networking research labs in the deaprtment.
He is also one of the co-founder of the company Cognix that works in the area of developing
computer vision and AI/ML based solutions for smart healthcare.
