“Granpa, come and push me on the swing.

I want to touch the sky!”

“Yes, you can touch the sky.”

“Sahib, breakfast is ready. Ram called out from the kitchen. The ramblings of this
five-year-old had already won my heart. I couldn’t wait to read the rest. Having breakfast, I
took the diary to the garden. Some pages of it were torn and others were missing.

Hello Anne, these hospital visits have really started getting on my nerves. Granpa says it’s for
my better health. Ayah also says the same. I think they are hiding something from me.

The air is clear today after days of snowing, and

The sun plays peek-a-boo with fluffy clouds.

               Dear Anne,

I have heard grandpa teaching several times that April is the cruellest month. But Anne, I
differ to agree. Because today, I opened my window

To singing birds and swinging daisies.

Ah! Spring is here at last.

               Anne,
               What’s in your bucket list?

Today Gaby visited our home and took me for a walk and taught me a new word- Bucket list.
He shared his and told me to think of mine. I’m excited, you know because he told me he’d
also help achieve some. Even the ropeway cable. Shhh... Keep it a secret. So here’s is first in
               my list.

               1. To meet my mama and papa because granpa says they are waiting for their little girl!!

I’ll add on as the days roll by.

               The entry ends there!

The following pages were empty. What would have happened to her? I was dying to know.

Harley came in the evening and offered to take me to Tiger Hill to see the sun rising from
               Kanchenjunga Mountain.

The next morning just when we started off in the jeep his wife cried out, “Danny, you left
               your coat here.”

                                                                                                      155
