SETTING
A beach house’s deck where the hosts of the party, Arnold, an Englishman in his thirties with
blonde hair and moustache and his wife Julia, a pretty woman with dark brown hair and
having a dusky complexion sit out on the deck with a close friend of the man, Samson, a man
with a macho physical build and evident ambitious character after an ester party. Time of
dusk, salty sea breeze flowing with Seagulls squeaking. All three of them, sitting round the
table having beer. Deck lights turned on, giving an orangish tinge to the ambience, mellow
music playing on the music player. Waves visible on the beach are more vigorous than
normal days. Gibbous moon shining on the sea, visible from the deck.
BEGIN.
Arnold: Ah the party was great but gone too soon! I wish there had been more to it. I don’t
wanna go back to that dull menial daily life again.
Samson: More to it? That was as incredible and joyful as an ester party can be Arnold, what
are you talking about? Don’t you feel we’ve had a great refreshing experience and it’s time to
use this refreshing energy at work and achieve something bigger?
Arnold: No, I don’t think so. I’ve been enjoying this peaceful retreat all this time. Beautiful
views, the childlike sea, innocent but mischievous, seagulls, all of this you know. I felt one
with all these. And just for the motivation to work harder and achieve something in the
future, losing these treasures of the present doesn’t seem worthwhile.
Samson: Haha Arnold, you talk like a child. Grow up. We’re adults, responsible for the
progress of modern society, what it would yield if everyone else starts thinking and behaving
like you do now. All these things you’re talking about is recreation, just to take a break. But
we must not forget the purpose for which we’re raised and grown up.
Arnold: Well, maybe you’re right…or maybe I don’t feel like arguing now, with these
peaceful moments still left with me…so let’s just agree to disagree my friend! (Laughs
hysterically, Samson laughing with him)
Julia: (observing their conversation from the start and now smiling at their frivolities) would
you guys like some more beer? And snacks maybe? Samson, would you like nachos with
salsa sauce?
