Judge Danny: Thank you. Good afternoon and welcome. My name is Danny Morrison as you

have heard. I know both parties have put a lot of time into preparing your cases and I’m here
to hear them.

Judge Danny: Let’s start with the plaintiff side opening statement.
Mr. Hanks: Hello, I am Tom Hanks and I am here to present my client, Mr. William Lee case.

Today we are here to talk about a precious Picasso painting being ripped and thrown into the

dustbin. This is definitely done to make my client suffer because that painting was very dear to
him. Today we are seeking justice in this courtroom against the person who we suspect did the

damage, Mr. James Watson. We are demanding the damages amount of 2 Million Dollars and
a fine on Mr. James Watson. That’s all your honour.

Judge Danny: The Defendant opening statement.

Miss Smith: Hello your Honor, my name is Megan Smith and I am here to defend my client
Mr. Watson. Before the proceedings of the court, I want to draw your attention towards the

history and nature of my client, Mr. James Watson. He has no previous records of theft, hate
and he has a clear record in all of this. Also he is very generous and has been living with Mr.

Lee for almost 4 years now. So I am not sure why he would do such a thing. There cannot be
any motivation for my client to do that. Thank you, Your Honour.

Judge Danny: Remember, this is a bench trial meaning my decision will be the final decision.

Both sides have had ample time to review the evidence, right?
Both Lawyers: Yes, Your Honour.

Judge Danny: We shall proceed then; Prosecutor, do you have the first witness.
Mr. Hanks: Yes, Your Honour, I would like to bring Mr. Lee to the witness box.

Judge Danny: Permission Granted.

The bailiff approaches Mr. Lee to escort him to the witness box.
Bailiff (Swearing in): Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,

On God.
Mr. Lee: Yes

Mr. Hanks: Could you identify yourself to the court?

Mr. Lee: My name is William Lee. I am roommates with 4 people namely Olivia Rhodri,
Ramee Jacobs, Lara Banks and James Watson.

Mr. Hanks: Ok thank you for that. Now I would like you to identify this horrific painting (By
presenting the first evidence, the ripped painting in front of the court)

Mr. Lee: I bought this painting last week from an auction in Las Vegas for 2 Million Dollars.
I have shown it to only my roommates excluding Ramee as he is on a trip to Canada.
