Anna: Aw, how cute! Your husband brought you lunch. I wonder if he thinks you’re fat.
Mike: Where’s my hug?
(Tailor stands and hugs Mike awkwardly. She is obviously upset about something.)
Mike: Hey, everything okay?
Tailor: Yeah, I’m fine. Just an emotional session.
Mike: Usually the therapist isn’t supposed to be the emotional one. Are you sure you’re okay?
Anna: See, even he thinks you’re a crappy therapist.
Tailor: I said shut up!
Mike: Did I say something wrong?
Tailor: Nothing. It wasn’t you.
(Mike looks around.)
Mike: It’s just us here.
Anna: He thinks you’re crazy.
Tailor: I’m not crazy!
Mike: I never said you were.
Tailor: I know you didn’t.
Anna: You said it.
Tailor: Well what should I say then? That I’m a lousy, no good therapist can’t help a damn
client?
Anna: Correct!
(A pause)
Mike: Tailor... you know none of that is true.
Tailor: How do you know?
Mike: Because I know you.
Tailor: How can I help my clients if I can’t even help myself?
(Mike puts his arm around Tailor.)
Mike: You don’t have to help yourself. We can. Together.
(Mike goes to the table and picks up Tailor’s notebook. He hands it to her.)
Mike: Read your notes. Apply them to yourself as if you were applying them to a client.
(Mike pecks Tailor on the forehead. She takes a deep breath. She is slightly reassured.)
Tailor (nodding her head) Okay.
(Tailor sits in the chair across from Anna. Mike squats down next to Tailor’s chair and keeps
his hand on hers.)
Tailor: Okay, Anna. What brings you in today?
