Jess: Yes.
Tailor: I see. What do you think happened there?
Jess: I don’t know really. It was triggering, I guess.
Tailor: We all have our triggers, Jess. But our triggers don’t have to define us. As long as we
give them power, they will remain to have power over us.
(A pause)
Jess: Are you saying that my anxiety is my fault?
Tailor: I’m not saying that, Jess.
Jess: You just said we give our triggers power. It sounds like you’re blaming me for my anxiety.
Tailor: Jess, that’s not what I meant.
Jess: It sure sounds like it.
(A pause. Tailor tries to change the subject.)
Tailor: It seems like our session is about to end. Is there anything you’d like to talk about before
we wrap?
Jess: Yeah. Do you have any referrals for other therapists? I’d like to look into some others.
(Tailor is taken aback, but maintains her professionalism.)
Tailor: Oh, um, okay. Sure. I’ll email you a list of referrals.
Jess: Thanks.
(Another awkward pause.)
Tailor: Shall I schedule you for the same time next week?
Jess: (awkwardly)
No, not this time. I think I uh, wanna look into the referrals.
Tailor: Oh, okay. Well, good luck in your endeavours, Jess.
(Jess places the coffee cup on the table. She stands.)
Jess: Thank you, you too.
(Jess leaves the office. Tailor is alone. She sets her notebook on the coffee table and rubs her
head. She lets out a stressful sigh.)
Tailor: I’m trying my best. I’m really trying my best.
Anna (OFF STAGE): Are you though?
(Suddenly, Anna enters SL. They’re wearing a bright, flamboyant outfit, almost as if they want
to stand out in a crowd. They are holding onto a manilla folder containing papers.)
(They look at Tailor with a grin.)
Anna: Hey there, doc!
(Tailor is simultaneously scared and annoyed that Anna is there.)
