Sullivan: Can you please address the elephant in the room officer? How does being a fisherman

help him get rid of the dagger? Are you suggesting he threw it out of the window using a fishing
rod? I don’t see any rod here.

Moriarty: He never used a dagger. Not a real one at least. You see what he did was build himself
a knife which would disappear after the crime. It would melt into his own hands.

               Sullivan: Like what? Ice?

Moriarty: Exactly like ice. He carved a sharp dagger out of a block of ice and stabbed himself
with it. The drenched shirt was wet with water and not sweat. The unusual numbness of his

fingers and the absence of the murder weapon all point towards this being the only probable
explanation for what has happened here.

Dianne: But. But, why would he kill himself? He had no reason to do so.

Moriarty: Oh he had his reasons, you know it well enough. He found out.
               Both Sullivan and Dianne shocked

               Mrs Marple: Found what out?
Moriarty: Miss Dianne and Mr Sullivan are seeing each other. Both being unfaithful to their

partners. I had a hunch when you (looking at Dianne) reacted so absurdly to the name of a man
you’re completely unknown of, my suspicions became beliefs when you comforted Mr Sullivan

by calling him Geoff. Even though I did not know his first name, how did you? Mr Choke

found it out and him being the lover that he was towards Dianne thought of ending his life.
Mrs Marple: I knew it. I told you, inspector. I told you they are the ones who killed him. I knew

               it.
Sullivan: It’s a suicide lady. A suicide. Dianne or me are not the ones to blame. I don’t

               understand how he found out.

Moriarty: Your wife, Mr Sullivan. She told me on the phone she went to meet your lawyer
privately after seeing him deliberately bend the case in her favour. She saw a picture in Frank’s

wallet while he was handing out his card to her. She recognises you, doesn’t she (looks at
Dianne). Apparently, she caught you in her bedroom one time when she came back early from

a party. That’s when she told Frank all about it. Frank had his suspicions, your wife just gave

               him the confirmation he needed.
Dianne (breaks down, crying on the floor): He can’t, I did not know he loved me that much.

Moriarty: More than you could imagine. Made sure to stage his death as a murder in order to
keep you out of the news. If his suicide made the headlines, fingers would be pointed at you.

Stalled Mr Sullivan’s case as long as he was not sure of his relations with his girlfriend. Great
man, but a weak man. He had no right to take his own life.
