(Captain ignores Karan’s comments)
Captain: Your grandfather’s abandoned home is near the spot where Mukul’s body was
found, right?
David: Yes, but I have not been there for about twenty years. You could call my granddad if
you wish.
(Interrogator rings the bell signalling captain to join him outside)
Interrogator to Captain: David’s granddad confirms that he hasn't been to the cabin in years
and he hasn't spoken to David in over a month. What about the neighbours? There is only one
more bungalow off that road and we haven't been able to contact the owner however David
does not know that. We can tell him that the neighbour saw him that night, he'll definitely
crack.
Captain: Do you want me, Captain Mayank, to lie?
Interrogator: No, I would like me to lie and for you to stand behind me
Captain: (Deep voice) we’re not lying.
Interrogator: It’s legal. The Supreme Court mentioned that we’re allowed to lie in an
interrogation.
Captain: It is a mistake in our plan of action. You are merely assuming what happened that
night. However, what if David ne’er visited the cabin?
Interrogator: He did. I feel it in my guts.
Captain: That’s your abdomen and we don’t work on gut instincts here. What if you are
wrong? If David knows that we’ve nothing, we lose our credibility and our leverage to
interrogate him. No, we want a unique strategy,
Interrogator: It’s our last chance to break him (Both enters the room)
Captain: We just got off the call with your grandfather, you're right.
David: I don’t lie.
Interrogator: However, Your uncle’s neighbours saw you enter the cabin, the night of the
murder. They ID’d you. I’ve got you dead in your tracks.
David: Fascinating, my uncle has only one neighbour, and I am pretty positive he cannot
identify me. Because he died 3 years ago.
Karan: Officers, I am afraid you have no evidence against my client, we have to leave now.
Captain: No! He cannot leave till I dismiss him.
Karan: You’ve had him for 9 hours and forty-five minutes. Fifteen minutes more and we file
a harassment claim.
